Catalonia is one of the regions with the greatest landscape diversity in Europe, and to explore it, it boasts more than 500 cataloged viewpoints. From castles and fortresses to reservoirs, hermitages, cemeteries, lighthouses, or simply a bench to rest on: all of these are prime spots for viewing the 134 landscapes identified in Catalonia by the Landscape Observatory of Catalonia, an entity attached to the Department of Territory, Housing, and Ecological Transition.

The more than 500 observation points are now available on a downloadable map and can be viewed interactively via the Instamaps viewer of the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia (ICGC).
From control towers to benches with views

The variety of the listed viewpoints reflects the region’s own history and makes them perfect for a getaway.
Some were built for control and security purposes (towers, castles); others for religious reasons (hermitages and sites considered sacred); others for economic or engineering reasons ( piers, bridges, dams, communication towers), and many more for leisure, pleasure, or contact with nature.
The ultimate goal of this initiative is to restore the value of landscape contemplation as a transformative practice that is mindful and respectful of the land.
