After a drill last Monday, many residents received last night the massive warning from the Generalitat on their cell phones, and the warning was serious. Protecció Civil has activated the Alert phase of the INUNCAT plan due to the forecast of rainfall that can exceed 40 liters per square meter in just 30 minutes.
The main recommendation of the authorities is clear: to avoid trips that are not essential. The risk is concentrated in low-lying areas, so extreme caution is requested and stay away from streams, torrents and, above all, underpasses that may flood.
Rodalies, the most critical point of the morning
As usually happens in episodes of heavy rain, the railway network is one of the most affected. If you are a Rodalies user, patience will be your best ally today. We will tell you some of the main affectations this morning so that you can take them into account in your travels.
- R14 and R15, interrupted: The R15 is inoperative between Móra d’Ebre and Ascó (Tarragona) due to a landslide in the railway section.
- The R14 also suffered a catenary failure at Riu Milans. In both cases, alternative road services have been provided for passengers.
- Larga Distancia: Trains connecting Barcelona with Valencia and the south of Catalonia have also been suspended during the morning due to water accumulation and landslides on the track. Civil Protection maintains active the Ferrocat plan.
In the Ferrocarrils, so far there has been an incedencia
Traffic in the metropolitan area of Barcelona: affected roads
Those who have opted for private vehicles have not had it much easier. The Servei Català de Trànsit reports a very complicated panorama in the accesses to the city, with slow traffic and kilometers of traffic jams, especially in the Baix Llobregat.
- A-2: Significant queues in westbound (Pallejà height) and eastbound (between Sant Joan Despí and Sant Feliu).
- B-23: Builds up delays of up to 4.5 km between Sant Feliu and Molins de Rei to enter Barcelona.
- C-31 and C-32: They also face congestions of several kilometers between El Prat, Sant Boi and Viladecans, and in the accesses to the Rondas from Esplugues and L’Hospitalet.
At the moment there are no reports of roads or accesses cut.
How long will the INUNCAT alert last? The weather forecast in Barcelona
This is the question we all ask ourselves. According to the information provided by Protecció Civil, the episode of maximum intensity is concentrated in the early hours of the morning.
To refine the forecast, we have consulted the second key source: the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat). Their maps indicate that, although the bulk of the storm occurs in the morning, the instability could reactivate strongly at dusk and during the night. The warnings for rain intensity remain active throughout the coast and central pre-coastal.
The recommendation, therefore, remains in force: maximum caution throughout the day and consult the state of transport and roads before leaving.
