An Idiot’s Guide to Wine is adding more dates in Barcelona with its fun wine tasting event, where you’ll learn about food and wine pairings from a comedian during a stand-up show that includes a tasting. Whether you’re a connoisseur or your expertise is limited to swirling your glass, this experience blends “having a drink,” comedy, and learning—without pretentious commentary or unnecessary posturing.

What is An Idiot’s Guide to Wine?

The perfect blend of a comedy monologue and a guided table tasting —no need to know beforehand whether a wine should smell “more fruity” or “more woody.” During the 70-minute experience, you’ll sample six different wines (included with admission) while the comedian guides you through fun facts about each one, interspersed with jokes and witty remarks.

Suitable for adults only, this fun tasting will take place at L’Estació Espai Gastronòmic and will explore wines from different countries, which means one thing: the next time you go out for a glass of wine, no matter which one you choose, you’ll probably know a fun fact to share on the spot (and be the chicest person in the group).

Ideal for coming with friends, as a couple, or with that person we all know who says yes to anything out of the ordinary, the concept behind An Idiot’s Guide to Wine was created by comedian and certified wine expert Merrick Watts. After finding success in Australia, he’s now taking the show abroad with dates around the world. Alcohol consumption is optional, so if you’re really just there to enjoy the stand-up comedy and aren’t so interested in wine tasting, non-alcoholic beverages are available for an additional fee.
