Open the deadline to apply for the new rental subsidies launched by the Generalitat de Catalunya. From this Monday, June 30, until July 11 at 14:00 h, young people who meet the requirements may submit their application through the official website of Tràmits de la Generalitat.
The amount of this aid can range between 20 and 250 euros per month, depending on the applicant’s income.
This aid is intended for those who have not been able to access the state Bono Alquiler Joven 2025, and contemplates a competitive model: the applications with the highest social and economic score will be prioritized, not on a first-come, first-served basis.
Who can apply for rental subsidies in Catalonia?
They are aimed at young people up to 35 years old as of January 31, 2025, who legally reside in Catalonia and are holders of a rental contract or assignment of use (of housing or room), provided that this contract corresponds to their habitual residence. Other requirements are:
To be registered in the dwelling or room.
- Not to exceed the established income limit (up to 25,202.35 € per year in the case of a single person).
- Not to pay a rent higher than the maximum fixed according to geographical area (up to 950 € in Barcelona for a complete dwelling, or 450 € per room).
- Not to have a family or corporate relationship with the lessor.
- Not to be the owner or usufructuary of another dwelling (with some exceptions).
- Not receive other incompatible subsidies for the same concept.
- Those who rent a room can apply for the aid individually, without the income of the rest of the cohabitants being considered.
How much money can I receive?
The amount varies according to the “economic effort” involved in paying the rent with respect to the weighted annual income:
Rent effort (% income) | % subsidized | Monthly assistance | Maximum annual assistance |
---|---|---|---|
≤ 30 % | 20 % | 250 €/month | 3.000 €/year |
30-40 % | 30 % | 250 €/month | 3,000 €/year |
≥ 40 % | 40 % | 250 €/month | 3.000 €/year |
The minimum assistance will be €20 per month, and the total per dwelling may not exceed 75% of the monthly rent, even if there are several beneficiaries.
They are compatible with income such as the Renta Garantizada de Ciudadanía or the Ingreso Mínimo Vital, but not with other specific rental subsidies, such as the state Bono Joven or benefits from the Consorci de l’Habitatge if they are still in force in 2025.
How to apply
Applications can be submitted electronically through the portal of the Generalitat (tramits.gencat.cat) or in person at local housing offices or headquarters of the Agència de l’Habitatge de Catalunya.
The call published in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya (Official Gazette of the Generalitat de Catalunya) specifies that the grants will be awarded according to the score scale and not by order of registration. In other words, the important thing will be to meet the requirements and justify the situation of need, not to be the first to apply.
