It is official: the Generalitat de Catalunya will open the deadline to apply for the new regional rental subsidies on June 30. These aids come to support those tenants who have not been able to access the Bono Alquiler Joven 2025.
This new voucher will finance between 20 and 250 € per month of the amount of the rent, depending on the rate of effort of the applicant, and as long as requirements such as the rent are met, which in no case must exceed 25,202.35 €.
Published today in the Diari Oficial de la Generalitat de Catalunya ( DOGC), the initiative is aimed at young people under 35 years of age. The period for submitting applications will begin on June 30 at 9:00 a.m. and will end on July 11 at 2:00 p.m., through the official procedures portal : https://tramits.gencat.cat.
Requirements to apply for the rental subsidy in Catalonia 2025
Applicants must meet the following conditions:
- Be 35 years old or younger on January 31, 2025.
- Be legally resident in Catalonia.
- Be the holder of a rental contract or assignment of use (housing or room), which constitutes their habitual residence.
- To be registered in the property that is the object of the aid.
- Not to exceed the established income limits (see table below).
- Not to pay a rent above the maximum allowed according to geographical area.
- To be up to date with the payment of the rent at the moment of the application.
- Make rent payments by verifiable bank means.
- Not to have a family or corporate relationship with the lessor.
- Not to be owner or usufructuary of another housing in Spain (with exceptions).
- Not to receive other incompatible subsidies for the same purpose and period.
In the case of applicants who rent a room, the cohabitation unit is defined as the applicant himself/herself only. That is to say, the income of other tenants with whom they share the apartment is not taken into account, which facilitates access to the aid for young people in cohabitation regime.
How much do I have to earn to access rental subsidies in Catalonia?
The maximum amount of annual income to access this aid is 25.202,35 €. This is the result of multiplying the income sufficiency indicator of Catalonia (IRSC) for the year 2023, which is the one that will be taken into account and that is 8,605.15 euros per year, by 2.928479 times, which is the coefficient that regulates the call.
Exceptionally, when the applicant accredits to have a working life from the year 2024, the income of the year 2024 will be admitted.
In addition, depending on the number of members of the cohabitation unit, the maximum income will be reduced as follows:
- 1 member (coefficient 1): 25,202.35 euros.
- 2 members (coefficient 0,93): 23.438,19 Euros
- 3 members (coefficient 0,83): 20.917,95 euros
- 4 members (coefficient 0.77): 19,395.81 euros
- 5 or more members (coefficient 0,70): 17.641,64 euros
Amount of aid: according to economic effort
The assistance is not a fixed amount, but is calculated according to the effort required to pay the rent in relation to the weighted income of the applicant:
Effort for rent (% of income) | % subsidized | Maximum monthly subsidy | Maximum annual subsidy |
---|---|---|---|
≤ 30 % | 20 % | 250 €/month | 3.000 €/year |
30-40 % | 30 % | 250 €/month | 3,000 €/year |
≥ 40 % | 40 % | 250 €/month | 3.000 €/year |
The minimum subsidy will be €20 per month (€240 per year). If there are several beneficiaries in the same dwelling, the total amount of the subsidies may not exceed 75% of the monthly rent.
In addition, these subsidies are incompatible with other public or private subsidies for the same rent and period, and subsidies from the Consorci de l’Habitatge de Barcelona, unless they have ended in 2025 and are not renewable.
They are compatible with general social benefits such as the Minimum Vital Income or the Guaranteed Income of Citizenship, as long as they are not specifically intended for the payment of rent.

Rental subsidies according to score, and not date of application.
The Catalan call for applications introduces another change: aid will be granted on a competitive basis, applications will be prioritized according to social and vulnerability criteria, and the date of application will not be taken into account, but the applicant’s score.
In the Bono Alquiler Joven it was common that some applicants could not access the aid because the available funds were exhausted and the aid was granted on a first-come, first-served basis.
The scoring scales are available in the regulatory bases of the call for applications.
The application must be submitted online at the official portal of Tràmits de la Generalitat de Catalunya or in person at the local housing offices or delegations of the Agència de l’Habitatge de Catalunya.
