A few weeks ago, a few images captured a glimpse of an automatic bus driving through Barcelona and the headline was made. Now, the news is confirmed and today Barcelona has presented its first driverless bus for passenger transport in the history of the city.
It is an autonomous electric minibus that has no driver but passengers, and that will circulate in tests with real traffic in Barcelona during the next few days.
The bus is equipped with 12 cameras and radars that allow it to measure the surrounding traffic, respect traffic lights or dodge vehicles, and is a model that has already been tested in other countries such as China or the United States or events such as Roland Garrod of 2024.
Jaume Collboni said at the presentation that Barcelona loves to be “a test city” for this type of initiative and that this places Barcelona at the forefront of the transport of the future.
Where to take the autonomous bus?
The tests run from 11:00 am to 5:00 pm from today until Friday, March 14, and the route it will take will be circular and about two kilometers long.
The four stops will be Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes with Rambla de Catalunya, Rambla de Catalunya between València and Mallorca, Carrer del Rosselló 261 and Passeig de Gràcia 55 between València and Aragó.
The bus has six seats and to get on you only have to approach the bus stops and get on if there are seats available.
