Barcelona will have a new cultural offering on its waterfront this coming June. The Blaumarí Music festival will be held in Port Vell in a “boutique” series format with limited capacity.
But the big news is the venue: the performances will take place on a structure over the water located at Moll Barcelona Nord, a space that opened to the public last year next to the World Trade Center.
The concert schedule will kick off on June 10 with an artist to be announced today, Friday, March 20. Kamasi Washington’s jazz (June 12) and Carlos Núñez’s Celtic music (June 13) will open the first few days of concerts, followed by UB40 feat. Ali Campbell’s reggae on the 14th.
The lineup includes diverse genres such as opera, with a performance of La Traviata on June 15, and Swedish pop by The Cardigans on the 16th. The week will continue with the rumba of the Gipsy Kings (June 17), the rock of the Catalan group Sau (June 18), and the unique style of Xoel López on the 19th.
Highlights of the summer solstice
The festival’s main weekend will feature the Nit d’Havaneres on June 20 and the funk of Nile Rodgers & CHIC on Sunday, June 21. Subsequently, the venue will host the fusion sounds of DJ Symphonic (June 22), the soul of Joss Stone (June 24), and the progressive rock of Alan Parsons (June 25).
The final stretch of the festival will feature the British band James on June 27, and composer Rufus Wainwright, who will close this first edition on June 28.
The organization will open ticket sales for all shows next Monday, March 23, at 10:00 a.m. via its official website. This event marks the first time the pier has been used as a concert venue, a development that reinforces the opening of port spaces to cultural activities for the public.
