We know Botero’s gato del Raval, but we can find little more work in Barcelona. Now, an exhibition will put a solution to the matter, since, from February 14, the Palau Martorell will host the largest exhibition of paintings by the iconic Colombian artist ever held in Spain.
It will be a retrospective that will pay tribute to the artist just over a year after his death. It will feature more than 110 works that will cover more than 60 years of the artist’s career. The exhibition will be on display until July 20.
The exhibition will feature a wide variety of techniques and formats, from sculptures, oils and watercolors to sanguines, charcoals and pencil drawings, with pieces from the painter’s different series dedicated to Latin America, the circus, religion, still life and reinterpretations of great art classics.
It will also be the first time that two of Botero’s masterpieces, Las Meninas by Velázquez and Homage to Mantegna, a painting recently discovered by Lina Botero through Christie’s and coming from a private collection in the United States, will be on view in Spain.
One of the great attractions of the show will be the exhibition, for the first time in Spain, of two masterpieces by the artist: Las Meninas by Velázquez and Homage to Mantegna, a painting recently discovered by Lina Botero through Christie’s and from a private collection in the United States. Both pieces will join the painter’s iconic series dedicated to Latin America, the circus, religion, still life and reinterpretations of great art classics.
Tickets are already on sale on the Palau Martorell website, with general admission at 16€.
