Enjoying an authentic calçotada is now easier thanks to technology. CalçotApp, the first digital platform dedicated entirely to this gastronomic ritual, is now available for download on iOS and Android systems. This tool seeks to modernize the tradition by directly connecting consumers with the origin of the product.
The app offers a detailed interactive map where users can locate specialized restaurants and farmers that have the Calçot de Valls PGI seal . In addition, the digital ecosystem includes information on points of sale for artisanal sauce, ready-made meal companies, and traditional bread ovens.
Digital solution to a real demand
The project is the work of Gerard Cañellas Prades and Arnau Pérez de TudelaGuasch. These two local entrepreneurs realized that, despite the popularity of the event, there was no unified guide. “The project was born out of a real need after receiving the same questions every season about where to eat or buy quality produce,” explain the founders.
The development of the platform has been based on rigorous data analysis, including the validation of locations and direct contact with the primary sector. Currently, the community already has more than 500 registered establishments and maintains an open call on its official website for new producers to join the initiative.
Culture and industry news
Beyond its geographical location, the app is committed to spreading the word through La Redolta. This internal editorial section offers news, reports, and interesting facts that delve into the culture of calçots, serving as a style guide for the most demanding users.
The app can be downloaded free of charge. With this initiative, the creators hope to establish a permanent digital reference that protects the essence of Catalan gastronomy from lower-quality options, ensuring that the product goes “from field to plate” with complete transparency.
