Slow-TV is a concept of delivering content broadcasts in real or near-real time, at a leisurely pace and without accelerated editing. It may seem the opposite of the current dynamics of consumption but the truth is that it has something hypnotic and that is why today we bring you what is probably the most unexpected slow-tv in Barcelona: the one that records the life of the peregrine falcons that live in the Sagrada Familia.
They are the most unlikely guests of the temple. In 2003, a pair of adult peregrine falcons settled in one of the towers of the Sagrada Familia as part of the peregrine falcon reintroduction project promoted by the Barcelona City Council.
Why breed Peregrines in the Sagrada Familia?
Why in the basilica? It seems to be one of the ideal places . Its towers were one of the last refuges where this species bred in Barcelona before its disappearance, so the site seems ideal.
Thus, since 1999, when spring approaches, the falcons breed in the nest they have in the Sagrada Familia, laying eggs and then feeding their young.
How to watch Falcon TV
In order to broadcast and share the falcons’ breeding process, which usually takes place between March and April, a webcam has been installed in the nest, which broadcasts 24 hours a day.
Over the years , the camera has recorded the laying of eggs, the birth of up to 42 hatchlings or lunches based on hunted pigeons.
To watch it or put it in the background just go to the Youtube channel of the Basilica of the Sagrada Familia and sit back and enjoy the quiet life of the falcons thinking how beautiful it must be to live carefree, just nesting in a tower of the Sagrada Familia.
