Just a 40-minute train ride from Barcelona lies one of the most spectacular venues on the Catalan coast. You’ve walked past it countless times on your way from the Rodalies station to the beach without realizing that this building with its white façade and Indian-style architecture houses an impressive 1890s theater with a ceiling covered in frescoes. This place is none other than the Casino Prado Suburense, where summer concerts for 2026 were recently announced.
But don’t go thinking that this time capsule, declared a Site of Cultural Interest, is just a music venue. The Prado is the traditional hub of Sitges’ social life, still offering cinema, theater, and a varied entertainment program today—all while keeping intact that stately style from over a century ago that we love so much.
Sitges’ “Sistine Chapel” you didn’t know about

Stepping into the Prado hall is like entering a small European opera house you wouldn’t expect to find here. The space was designed by architect Josep Maria Martino i Arroyo with a clear vision: to create a corner of classical inspiration where art would be everywhere. In fact, it’s impossible not to look up as soon as you enter to admire the ceiling, covered in frescoes by Agustí Ferrer Pino, which crowns the entire hall.
Although the decor isn’t the only thing that makes it special. Its horseshoe shape, the result of the 1924 renovation, also seems to embrace the sound. That curve creates clear acoustics, ideal for enjoying concerts like those by Candlelight and its string quartet by candlelight.

An Indian-style club just a stone’s throw from the beach
Sitges is one of the cities with the most Indian heritage in Spain, and the Casino Prado Suburense is one of its clearest examples. Every corner, from its pedimented windows to the reliefs on the façade, exudes that late-19th-century opulence. Art is present throughout the building, starting with the lobby decorated by Miquel Utrillo and continuing with the stone friezes sculpted by Pere Jou.
But the real gem is its interior garden, an oasis of calm right in the heart of the city. This is where the “Sunset in the Prado Gardens” events—now in their 4th year—take place, and it’s the perfect spot to unwind. So this summer, you know the drill: sun, sand… and the Prado.
