This Saturday, November 2, La Rambla will be transformed into a river of color, flowers, makeup and elegance on the occasion of the Catrinas 2025 Parade, one of the most anticipated celebrations of Barcelona’s autumn. Inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead, the event will pay tribute to life and memory, uniting Mexican tradition with the festive spirit of Barcelona.
The route will start at 12 noon from the Teatre Poliorama (La Rambla, 115) and will end at 1 pm on the esplanade of the Centre d’Art Santa Monica, where the awards ceremony of the Catrinas contest will take place. There will be three categories, children, adult and group, and originality, makeup and costumes will be valued.
And if your thing is not to compete, you can also join the parade dressed as a Catrina or just enjoy the show that, every year, fills the heart of Barcelona with flowers, skulls and Mexican music.
How to join the Catrina parade?
To participate in the parade, all you have to do is sign up at mexcat.org indicating what the costume will be like and what elements stand out from the catrina, since an independent jury will give a prize for the best catrina, the most original and the best couple.
Those who want to participate can register by sending an email to mexcat.org@gmail.com, with a cost of 4 € for children and 8 € for adults.
And although the typical Catrinas are dressed in elegant and formal costumes , the organization invites you to interpret the Catrina costume with total freedom and to let yourself be carried away by creativity and madness.
