As it could not be otherwise, the Sagrada Familia, the most visited church in Barcelona, celebrates its own Christmas. Very close to the Sant Pau lights, the Gaudí basilica will launch a whole program to celebrate its own festivities.
From family workshops to the mythical Christmas concert, through the expected light show and mapping that will be projected on its facade. We tell you everything you need to know about Christmas 2024 in Sagrada Familia so you don’t miss anything.
Family Christmas Workshop
Once again this year, the Basilica organizes its Christmas Workshop, designed for children between 6 and 12 years old. This activity begins with a dynamic tour of the temple, focusing on the emblematic Nativity Façade, where the little ones will explore the connections between the sculptures and Christmas traditions.
Afterwards, participants will create a traditional paper ornament called neula, which was once used to decorate churches in Catalonia. Each child will be able to take home his or her craft as a souvenir. The workshop is priced at 8€ and the schedules and languages of the sessions are available at sagradafamilia.org/nadal.
Christmas Concert
On Friday, December 13, at 7 pm, the Basilica will host its traditional Christmas Concert, with the Vallès Symphony Orchestra and the Orfeó Català under the direction of Salvador Brotons. The repertoire will include pieces such as The Nutcracker by Tchaikovsky, The Messiah by Handel, The Blue Danube by Strauss, and a selection from La Nit de Nadal by Joan Lamote de Grignon.
Tickets for the concert will be raffled among those interested. 350 double tickets will be distributed, and participants can register from December 2 to 8 through the Sagrada Familia website and social networks. It will also be streamed at sagradafamilia.org/directes.
In addition, on Monday, December 16, at 6:30 pm, three choirs of the Lluïsos de Gràcia will perform traditional Christmas carols in front of the Nativity Façade. This event will be free and open to all audiences.
Light show and mapping on the Nativity Façade
From December 20 to 22, the Nativity Façade will be illuminated with music and narrations highlighting the symbolism of scenes such as the Nativity, the Adoration of the Shepherds and the Adoration of the Magi.
Each show, lasting about 10 minutes, will be free and can be enjoyed from Marina Street. The projections will be made from 19h. to 22h.
Misa del Pollet, the big Christmas mass
On December 24, at 7 p.m., the traditional Misa del Pollet will be celebrated, especially designed for children. The ceremony will be presided over by Monsignor David Abadias, and will end with the adoration of the Child Jesus in front of the Nativity Façade.
Access to this mass will be free until full capacity is reached.
