No Christmas lights, no Christmas lights, no giant stars… The lights of the Raval festivities will be called this 2024 “Llums d’Hivern”, and they want to be a tribute to the cultural and religious diversity of the neighborhood.
Thus, this year, the lighting project, created by local designer Imanol Ossa in collaboration with the neighborhood’s commercial fabric, aims to move away from the traditional Christmas lights and reflect the diversity that defines the Raval.
With a budget of 65,000 euros and a total of 4,195 linear meters of garlands, the garlands are defined as “inclusive” and are, in essence, colored bulbs with no further meaning or symbolism.
The lights will be seen in emblematic streets such as Tallers, Joaquín Costa, Ferlandina, Valldonzella, Verge and Peu de la Creu, as well as the Rambla del Raval and the squares of Salvador Seguí and Vicenç Martorell. The neighborhood’s commercial fabric considers this route an invitation to get to know the true spirit of the Raval: smile, proximity and diversity.
One of the particularities of this project is that the garlands are for rent, which, according to the designer, not only avoids storage problems, but also offers a second life to the lights.
