The cold has arrived with force to Catalonia in the second week of January and for that reason the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat), has activated warnings between today and tomorrow for temperatures below zero in great part of the territory.
The orange and yellow alerts imply, in the first case, an important risk of more intense meteorological phenomena that can affect a greater number of people and cause damage or interruptions in daily activities. In the second case, the risk is more contained and involves phenomena that may affect specific activities or vulnerable groups.
Frosts on the coast
The warnings have been activated in all regions, most in orange level for cold, except Barcelonès, Baix Llobregat, Garraf and some areas of the Pyrenees, where the alert will be yellow but temperatures, as is already being noted this morning, will also fall.
Catalonia woke up this Monday with temperatures that had already dropped. The minimums were extreme: in Prades, the thermometer fell to -11.9 ° C, a record not seen since 2017. Ulldemolins marked -7.2 °C, Blancafort recorded -6.1 °C and Cervera reached -5.9 °C. Even the coast, which is usually spared from these polar waves, was dotted with frost.
Today, the cold will continue to be the protagonist, with highs not exceeding 8 °C in many areas. In the Pyrenees and the interior, the minimums will range between -8 ° C and -3 ° C, while on the coast we will hover between -1 ° C to 3 ° C. Barcelona, Baix Llobregat and Garraf will be the oases of the day, with minimums between 4 °C and 7 °C and maximums that could reach 14 °C.
From Wednesday the cold will loosen a little in the interior, where the alerts will go from orange to yellow level. Even so, frost will continue to be the protagonist, with temperatures close to 0 ° C at dawn in several parts of the territory, strong in the interior and moderate on the coast. Temperatures will be high along the Catalan coast.
