The improvement works in the infrastructure of the Barcelona Metro will cause partial cuts in the service of lines 2 and 4 during the next long weekend of the Constitution, between Saturday 6 and Monday 8 December.
As reported by the Department of Territory of the Generalitat and Transports Metropolitans de Barcelona (TMB), the most significant cut will take place on line 4, with a service interrupted for three days between the stations of Passeig de Gràcia and La Pau.
A cut that will affect 13 stations on this line and will be extended to 2 more during the early morning hours of Monday, December 8 (from 5 to 8 a.m., between Verdaguer and La Pau). Outside these morning hours, the restriction will return to the initial section (Passeig de Gràcia – La Pau).
The service interruption is due to signaling renovation works in a section comprising these 13 stations, a work financed with European funds amounting to 62 million euros.
During the interruption, Passeig de Gràcia station will keep one of its platforms operational for trains running in the direction of Trinitat Nova.
The service is expected to be fully restored on both lines on Tuesday 9 December at 05:00 am.
Clot cuts on Line 2 for accessibility

At the same time, the Generalitat will carry out accessibility works at Clot station on Line 2. These works, budgeted at 7.1 million euros, will build an elevator access corridor connecting the platforms of L1 and L2.
Due to these works, from December 6 to 8, L2 trains will not stop at Clot station in the direction of Badalona Pompeu Fabra.
In addition, there will be another cut before the long weekend: on Friday, December 5 (from 00:00 to 02:00 a.m.), there will be no trains running between Sagrada Família and La Pau stations on L2.
How to get around Barcelona: alternatives to L4 and L2

TMB recommends the metro network itself as the most efficient alternative, with the use of L2 (with junctions at Passeig de Gràcia and La Pau) and L1 (junction at Urquinaona) to make up for the cut of the yellow line L4.
However, to cover the affected section of L4, a special shuttle bus service will be provided to connect all the closed stations. This service will have up to 21 articulated vehicles and will have a frequency of approximately 5 minutes during rush hour.
For the Clot (L2) service, it is recommended to use the L1 to Universitat station for the transfer, or walk to the adjacent Encants station.
For Friday’s night-time disruption on L2, the alternative will be the N8 and N9 night buses.
During the days affected, TMB will deploy an information campaign with staff at stations, public address system, static signage and through its digital channels to guide users.
