The Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat) has issued a maximum danger alert for violent weather in several regions of the province of Barcelona, including Baix Llobregat, Barcelonès, Vallès Occidental, Alt Penedès and Garraf.
If you live in Barcelona you will already be watching the violent rains falling on the city, which have started this noon after an overcast morning and previous warnings of rain and wind gusts.
Heavy rains and possible hail and tornadoes
The alert, which will be in effect between 12:00 and 14:00 hours, warns of the possibility of extreme weather events, including episodes of hail larger than 2 cm in diameter, heavy rain, wind gusts in excess of 90 km/h (25 m/s) and possible blowouts or tornadoes.
Meteocat has rated the danger level as maximum, reaching 6 out of 6 on its risk scale. This situation is part of the episode of DANA (Isolated High Level Depression) that is affecting much of the Iberian Peninsula.
The population is advised to exercise extreme caution, avoid unnecessary travel and be attentive to updates from the competent authorities. It is especially important to stay away from coastal areas, rivers and areas prone to flooding during this period of alert.
