Recycling in Barcelona has its rewards. As much as a 14% reduction in your water bill. The AMB offers a free card to access the city’s green points and recycle waste that cannot be disposed of in regular containers.
In return, if a person recycles waste several times a year at one of these points, they will see a reduction in both the municipal waste collection fee for households and the metropolitan waste treatment fee (TMTR).
The administration charges both amounts on the water bill itself.
How to apply for this free card

The mechanism for benefiting from these savings is very simple. Citizens will hand over their card to the staff at each visit to the recycling center to record the deposit of materials. The more records there are, the higher the discount percentage applied by the system to the bill.
Anyone residing at the same address can use this accreditation. The card is directly linked to the household’s water supply contract, regardless of which family member goes to recycle.
To apply for this card, you can go in person to a green point with the original or a photocopy of your water contract, or with a recent bill.
The documentation must include the account holder’s details, such as their name, surname, tax identification number, address, and telephone number.
The second option is online via the official AMB website.
From this same portal, users can check their history of visits to recycling centers at any time to keep accurate track of their tax rebates.
