Sometimes reality surpasses fiction, and other times, it simply decides to set up shop in Girona’s Old Town. It’s not the first time the cobblestone streets of our neighboring city have become a fantasy setting ( Game of Thrones fans are still sore from climbing the cathedral stairs), but this time the tone is a bit more rosy. Disney has set its sights on the Girona region to film its next big project: the live-action version ofTangled.
The news broke after it was confirmed that the production company is looking for an army of extras to bring the kingdom of Corona to life. This isn’t just a rumor; the casting call is official and in-person, and promises to turn Girona into the epicenter of the Disney universe over the coming months. If you’ve always thought your look fits a medieval market or that you’ve got the rhythm to dance at the kingdom’s festivals, this is your chance to swap the office for an international film set.
A casting call for (almost) all audiences
Unlike other, more restrictive calls for applications, Disney has opened the door wide. The official event will take place at the Fira de Girona next Monday, April 27, during a marathon session running from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.
According to details that have emerged from the production, they are looking for people ranging in age from 4 to 80, which means entire families could end up sharing the screen with the new Rapunzel.
But beware, it’s not all about walking in the background with a wicker basket. The production is also on the hunt for dancers—both professional and amateur—up to 70 years old. The goal is to recreate those ensemble scenes so typical of the studio’s classics, where music and movement fill the screen. The job is also paid, a detail that always helps make the early morning queue on Paseo de la Devesa a little more bearable.
How to participate in the casting
The choice of Girona is no coincidence. The Old Town will serve as the setting to recreate the markets and streets of the fictional kingdom where the story of Rapunzel and Flynn Rider unfolds. Michael Gracey, the director behind the visual feast that was The Greatest Showman, is at the helm, and the leads have already been cast: Teagan Croft will play the young woman with the endless hair, and Milo Manheim will step into the shoes of the charismatic thief.
Although the film’s base of operations will be at the Ciudad de la Luz studios in Alicante, filming in Girona is expected to take place in late June. To apply for the casting call, simply send a private message via social media platform X (Twitter) to the Tangled Updates profile, where you can receive complete information about the casting.
And if Girona is too far away for you, you can always try to sign up for the casting call for the Beatles movie that will indeed be filmed in Barcelona, giving you the chance to fulfill the acting dreams you’ve always had.
