The Barcelona Metropolitan Area (AMB) has launched a project to expand the dog recreation area in Besòs Park. The urban development project will expand the current 624-square-meter facility to a total area of 2,385 square meters. This expansion will make the space one of the largest in the Barcelona area.
The project has a budget of 129,534 euros and addresses the lack of space identified by the AMB’s Park Management Service. Companies interested in carrying out the work have until April 13 to submit their bids. The planned completion period is four months, with the goal of finishing the facilities this year.
Division by size and new access points
The new design will maintain the separation of animals based on their size. The area for small dogs will grow to 415 square meters, while the area for large dogs will expand to 1,969 square meters. To ensure user safety, five new entrances with a double-door system will be installed.
The park’s perimeter will feature a new fence that will improve visibility between the interior and exterior of the grounds. Additionally, the project includes the installation of street furniture, such as benches, accessible fountains, trash cans with bag dispensers, and signage regarding the rules for using the space.
Comprehensive plan for the municipality
This project in Besòs Park is part of a broader municipal strategy to bring dog parks into compliance with current regulations, which require animals to be kept on a leash in public areas. The Sant Adrià de Besòs City Council has confirmed the renovation of five existing dog parks within the urban area.
Additionally, the city council will create two new areas in the La Catalana neighborhood. With these additions, the municipality aims to help property owners comply with the law and provide safe areas for animals to rest and engage in activities at various locations throughout the town.
