El Molino revives… again. The iconic building with the blades that links Barcelona’s Paralelo with Paris’s Montmartre is looking for another opportunity to look as it did when it was considered the most representative building of the Paralelo whose accumulation of shows and varieties once astonished the world.
It will do so thanks to Barcelona Events Musicals, organizer of the Cruïlla Festival, the company to which the city council has given the concession for the private use of the public domain of the space, with a four-year contract, which may be extended by agreement of both parties, with annual extensions up to a maximum of four more years.
what will be on display at the new Mill?
The project of the winning bidder, Barcelona Events Musicals, aims to turn El Molino “into a reference space for minority music in Barcelona, with a special preference for roots music, singer-songwriters, jazz, flamenco and Catalan Rumba, but also open to other artistic disciplines and cultural expressions”.
In addition, the Program includes activities related to comedy, theater or dance, as well as jam sessions, open mic, music talks, festival presentations or artist rehearsals, which will help to diversify audiences, offering a representation of the artistic variety of the city.
The project is explicit in its desire to promote collaboration and networking both locally and nationally, with extensive support from the music sector, with outstanding collaboration agreements with organizations representing various musical styles, such as Barnasants, El Dorado, Carabutsi and the Association of Jazz Musicians and also with the city’s music schools, Taller de Músics, El Conservatori del Liceu, Esmuc and Jam Session.
It also has the collaboration of various schools of musical and audiovisual management training, as well as L’Auditori and the Paral-lel 62 hall among others, which makes it connected and located with and in the environment, with a strong connection also at the national and international level.
New showrooms (and a restaurant) inside the Mill
The intention of Barcelona Events Musicals is to gradually increase the program, with the ultimate goal of occupying every day of the week, with different shows in the main hall and offering a wide range of activities in other spaces such as the rehearsal room, the club with terrace or the loft room .
Regarding gastronomic management, the project has been planned with the collaboration of the team of Florería Atlántico a contemporary Argentinean brasserie. The project also gives importance to signature cocktails, with cocktails inspired by the history of El Molino, and artists who have performed at Paral-lel and in Barcelona.
