
An explosion occurred this morning at the facilities of Terminales Portuarias SL (TEPSA), in the Moll de l’Energia of the Port of Barcelona. According to the first information, the port’s Self-Protection Plan (PAU) has declared an emergency, while members of the Generalitat de Catalunya’s Fire Brigade and SEM are on the scene to control the situation.
The Generalitat has activated the PLASEQCAT protocol , the alert against chemical accidents, to manage the incident and ensure safety in the area and has reported that it is the Fire Department who are managing the incident.
In an update at 11:11 am, Protecció Civil reported that the fire, which would have been caused by maintenance work, has caused the death of one person and that the fire would already be extinguished by the work being done by 11 firefighters in the area.
For its part, the Barcelona City Council has reported that a perimeter has been established around the area and that nearby companies have confined their workers.
At 15:30h. Protecció Civil announced in X that it was suspending the PLASEQCAT alert against chemical accidents and confirmed the death of one person and the attention by the SEM of three injured of varying degrees of severity.
