Residents of Marina del Prat Vermell and the Port will have a new direct connection before the end of 2026, thanks to the launch of an express bus that will connect the neighborhood with the Drassanes via the Morrot Pass. As Betevé explains, Sants-Montjuïc Councilwoman Raquel Gil announced at the latest neighborhood council meeting that the service will allow the trip to be completed in just 10 minutes, avoiding the usual traffic jams on the Ronda del Litoral.
The future express line is shaping up to be the fastest option for traveling from the Marina to the city center. By traveling via the Morrot Pass, vehicles will have a direct and stable route that will not be affected by the heavy traffic in the coastal area.
Raquel Gil confirmed that the project already has all the necessary administrative approvals. At this time, the city council is working on the final technical details, which include the exact location of the stops and the selection of the bus model that will operate the service.
A response to a long-standing demand
The creation of this line responds to a long-standing demand from residents, who had been calling for improved connections between the Zona Franca promenade and the rest of Barcelona without having to travel along the Ronda del Litoral.
Although the councilor noted that it is unlikely the service will be operational this summer, she guaranteed it will be up and running before the end of the year. Progress on the Port of Barcelona’s construction work at Morrot has made it possible to accelerate this first phase of the connection, without having to wait for the area’s complete urban transformation to be finished.
The first step toward an urban corridor
The bus route will follow the path of the old port railway line. Thanks to the construction of new rail access points, the Morrot container terminal will be freed up, allowing the city to reclaim this space for public use.
The comprehensive project includes a three-kilometer urban corridor between the Zona Franca promenade and Drassanes Square, divided into three sections:
Third section: From the Drassanes to the Port of Barcelona, connecting with the existing bus and bike lanes.
First section: From the Zona Franca promenade, passing through Mare de Déu de Port and Motors streets.
Second section: A restricted-access zone that crosses the port facilities.
