At a bar with 33 years of uninterrupted history in El Prat de Llobregat, the receipt is still issued with a peculiarity that surprises new visitors: all dishes and drinks are listed under a single generic category printed as “miscellaneous.” This
detail perfectly explains why Bar Blanes is so iconic: because it upholds the classic, family-run tradition of neighborhood tapas.
Located in the central Plaza Blanes, the establishment has built its customer base over more than three decades by offering the option to order half portions of virtually every dish on its menu. This allows diners to sample a wider variety of dishes and order a diverse selection to share.
Snails in a glass and hand-cut patatas bravas
One of the most unique specialties on the daily menu is the caracolillos(small snails). Instead of being served in the usual deep dishes, Bar Blanes serves them directly submerged in a glass along with their cooking broth—a presentation they use as a promotional feature right at the entrance to the bar.
Its culinary offerings are based primarily on traditional preparations that emphasize homemade cooking. The patatas bravas, one of the bar’s main attractions, are prepared by cutting the potatoes by hand and always using fresh ingredients—something we’re becoming less and less accustomed to. Alongside them, the bar’s tender and very flavorful pinchos are another of the house’s most frequently ordered dishes.
The menu for sharing is rounded out with traditional fried dishes and stews served in generous portions. Fried rejos, served with a lemon wedge, share the menu with classic earthenware casseroles of meat in sauce, known for their exceptional juiciness. It’s clear that diners love this classic approach, and it becomes even more evident when service ends and all the trays and plates are completely empty.
