There are few plans in Barcelona that are more perfect than this if you’re staying this summer: a dip with panoramic views, waves lapping in the sun, a nice cold “tinto de verano,” all while taking in Barcelona’s skyline. All of this is possible at one of the city’s most exclusive municipal swimming pools, a legacy of the 1992 Olympics.
We’re talking about the Montjuïc Olympic Pool, a Barcelona summer classic where you can combine fine dining with the city’s Olympic history.
Where is the Montjuïc Olympic Pool?
Located at the top of the mountain, these public facilities feature two outdoor pools, one of which has diving boards that were used in the 1992 Olympic Games.
From June through September, the pools are open to the general public, withadmissionpriced at €7.73 (and reduced rates of €5.35 for children and seniors). This covers a full day’sadmission, and from up here you’ll be able to see such iconic landmarks as the Sagrada Familia, Tibidabo, and the Mediterranean Sea in the distance.
Keep in mind, however, that the diving platform is reserved exclusively for federations and professional organizations dedicated to the sport.
Salts, the bar at the Montjuïc pool
The best part is that after climbing up to Montjuïc for a dip, you can stick around to enjoy some great tapas. Because if there’s one thing that elevates the experience (even further), it’s the Salts Terrassa Bar Montjuïc—the bar located right on the diving platform—where you can order a plate of nachos, hummus, or patatas bravas, among other high-quality tapas.
The atmosphere is relaxed and unpretentious, ideal for unwinding after a dip. You can order at the bar, sit at the tables on the terrace, or even in the bleachers themselves.
The Salts Terrassa Bar Montjuïc is open Monday through Thursday from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday from 10:30 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 9 p.m.
On weekends, starting Friday afternoon and into the evening, there are usually live music performances.
