Barcelona is pure Christmas with lights, ice rinks and markets everywhere. But in the outskirts of Barcelona there is also Christmas and all over Catalonia there are many beautiful Christmas getaways where you can spend a weekend as if you were in the same house of Santa Claus? or Tió’s house.
That is what the Festa del Tió de Mura proposes, the small town in the region of Bages, which has prepared a party as endearing as peculiar, where the great protagonist of the Catalan Christmas is everywhere.
It will be from November 30 to December 6, when this charming town will become a real game board full of… actions!
A gymkhana in search of 60 lost tions
In the Festa del Tió de Mura, the protagonists are not the lights, but the most vivid trunks of the Catalan Christmas, which will have to be found in a gymkhana through the whole village.
More than 60 tions the size of human beings will hide in the streets, windows, trees and corners of the village, waiting to be discovered by the little ones (and not so little).
There will be all kinds: tions that read books, play the violin, ride motorcycles and even others that recreate iconic characters. The challenge is to find them all and enjoy a magical walk through a rural setting that seems to be taken from a fairy tale. One key rule: once you find a tió, you must leave it in its place so that others can also enjoy the search.
How to get to Mura from Barcelona
If you decide to escape to Mura from Barcelona, the most comfortable way is by car. The village is usually full, so, this year, the City Council of Mura has enabled a parking outside the village and a little train that connects directly to the center of the event.
If you prefer public transport, you can take the Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat to Terrassa and, from there, the M8A bus to Matadepera. From this point, the Bus Parc will take you directly to the heart of Mura.
We advise you to avoid the busiest hours (between 11 am and 1 pm on holidays) to enjoy a quieter experience.
