The new flat rate of 20 € per month for Rodalies de Catalunya came into force on July 1, 2025, allowing unlimited travel throughout the suburban network for only 20 €, a formula that seeks to encourage the use of the network and facilitate travel for affordable prices.
But obviously, it has a counterpart, and that is that the residents of the municipalities that are outside the Rodalies network are excluded from the pass, having to pay the rates of the Media Distancia passes, much higher, for journeys that, many times, are a few kilometers more.
This is especially notorious in the municipalities that come just after the end of the line in Rodalies, where users have to pay five times more for doing, sometimes, just 10 kilometers more, almost five times more for their transport pass.
For this reason, we explain which are the stations at the end of the Rodalies line and which are the stations immediately after, so that you can find out when you have to pay for a Media Distancia travel pass if you want to go (or return) from Barcelona.
Where does the flat fare end on each line?
As we said, the price jump occurs just after the last Rodalies station on each main line. Here you have a summary of the limits and the cost of the monthly pass from the next station, already in Media Distancia.
Line | Last Rodalies station | First station outside (Media Distancia) | Media Distancia season ticket price*. | Difference with respect to Rodalies |
---|---|---|---|---|
R1/R2 Nord | Maçanet-Massanes | Caldes de Malavella | 104,8€ | x5 |
R2 South | Sant Vicenç de Calders | Torredembarra | 99,2€ approx. | x5 |
R3 | Puigcerdà | La Tour de Carol-Enveitg (France) | International section | – |
R4 | Manresa | Sant Vicenç de Castellet | 98,4 approx. | x5 |
Media Distancia: 60% of insufficient bonus
This fare cut generates paradoxical situations: residents of municipalities separated by just 10 minutes by train can pay radically different prices. For this reason, the Government announced additional bonuses for Regionals passes, but the difference is still very significant.
Prices, which are now five times the price of the Rodalies flat rate, could multiply even more without this bonus, so it is necessary to be attentive to see the future of transport in Catalonia.
