Casa Batlló returns for another year with its free mapping show on the iconic facade of the building in the heart of Barcelona. On February 1 and 2, 2025, the public will be able to enjoy this annual event which, in this edition, will be in charge of the Italian artist Quayola under the title “Arborescent”.
With more than 95,000 attendees in 2024, the show has established itself as a tradition that marks the beginning of the year in the city.
For this 2025, Quayola will pay homage to nature through a work inspired by the botanical world. The mapping will show branching, tree-like structures that will grow and expand along the façade of Casa Batlló.
“These tree-like formations grow, connect with the architectural elements and sway as if moved by an algorithmic noise that mimics the behavior of the wind. Thus, the arboreal forms paint the façade with hues and tones, creating a hybrid space that is both suspended and contemplative,” Quayola explains in a statement.
The projection will feature an original soundtrack composed by the artist, through custom software that combines traditional instrumental aesthetics with a new algorithmic composition.
The mapping will be projected for free every 30 minutes. The first session will be at 19:45 and the last at 22:45, with an approximate duration of 12 minutes per show.
Casa Batlló is a building designed by architect Antoni Gaudí and is located at Passeig de Gràcia, 43, in the center of Barcelona.
Quayola is a Roman artist who specializes in the use of technology to create works that combine the real and the abstract through hybrid compositions. His work has been exhibited at prominent art centers and international events such as the Victoria & Albert Museum (London), Park Avenue Armory (New York), National Art Center (Tokyo), UCCA (Beijing), How Art Museum (Shanghai), SeMA (Seoul), Palais de Tokyo (Paris), Ars Electronica (Linz), Sónar Festival (Barcelona) and the Sundance Film Festival.
In 2013, Quayola received the Golden Nica at Ars Electronica.
