If you haven’t heard of kefir, miso or kimchi by now, then you’re lost. If you do, we already have your ideal plan for this weekend. We are talking about FRMNT Fermentation Festival, the first fermentation festival in Barcelona.
It will be held on March 15 and 16 at Nau Bostik in La Sagrera, in a first edition open and free for the general public, where everyone can learn everything you need to know about ferments, from the mysterious kombucha to everyday products such as beer or chocolate.
The festival is an initiative of Henk Cortier (Lambicus) and Xavier Ramon (Ferment Project), who, after several editions in reduced format, seek to consolidate this meeting as the reference event of fermentation in Spain. “We want to bring this world closer to both fermentation enthusiasts and those who are taking their first steps,” explains Ramon. To this end, FRMNT will feature leading producers, specialized brands and some of the best master fermenters in the country.
What can you find at the FRMNT festival?
At the festival there will be a market with specialized products to workshops and tastings led by experts, which, yes, are paog and you will have to sign up in advance.
For two days, attendees will be able to discover and taste products such as beer, kombucha, kefir, lacto-fermented products, cider, natural wines, vinegars or fermented ice creams, made by brands such as Joncake, LOV Ferments, Brebel Beer, Ferment9 and many more. In addition, the festival will feature a series of activities with experts such as Jose de la Rosa (@fermentedfreelance), Javi Maeztu (@academiafermentista) or Natsumi Nakamori (Pickles Natsumi), who will offer talks, tastings and pairings.
Beyond gastronomy , the festival also seeks to disseminate the benefits of fermentation for health, sustainability and culinary innovation. “It is a unique opportunity to meet the best fermenters in the country, taste exclusive products and delve into a world that is playing an increasingly important role in our food”, emphasize its organizers. With a combination of tradition, science and creativity, FRMNT Festival promises to be a must-attend event for all fermentation lovers.
