Modern life has those things: erotic cinema is nowadays more widespread than ever and it is one of the industries with the highest turnover in the world. Never has consuming this content been so close at hand and its consumption is so normalized that Barcelona has just opened House of Eika Lust, the world’s first immersive 3D erotic cinema experience.
And although we are at that point, in this article we can’t write the word p**no because Google would censor it, so you will excuse us if we describe this erotic experience using all possible alternatives as prudish as they may sound at times.
In any case, if you’re here it’s because you’re not such a prude. At least, you are somewhat curious, enough to want to know what an immersive p**no cinema experience consists of and what you can see in this tour that Erika Lust, one of the best known erotic film directors in the world and pioneer of ethical or feminist p**no has opened to the public in Barcelona.
What is it like to watch erotic cinema surrounded by strangers?
The House of Erika Lust experience aims to bring p**no closer and “take it to the public conversation”, as its author explains, creating an immersive experience similar to those that lately put us inside Dali paintings or Pixar films. To this end, in a secret location (although usual for lovers of this type of experience) in Poblenou, this “house” of eroticism has been set up, where one, for 24 euros, has access to a tour of three areas where you can explore the different forms that desire takes.
As soon as we enter through a back door after waiting in the dark (the experience only opens at night), we put on an eye mask to free ourselves from our prejudices and go on to see the Confessions, videos of Erika Lust’s project where the fantasies of anonymous people are turned into erotic films.
In the second room, the best and most interactive, the good stuff happens. Virtual reality goggles allow us to enter the house of Erika Lust, a three-story house through which we can walk and interact with many parts of the house that will reveal all kinds of sensual scenes whose intensity can be selected by choosing, at the beginning of the visit, if we want an explicit or more restrained visit.
This part, the most innovative, allows us to really immerse ourselves in an erotic production and to see it from many different points of view that take us on a real journey through the different forms of adult cinema.
Finally, the third room, the Metaverse, is a room where huge screens surround us showing some of the most iconic productions in the history of Erika Lust.
We won’t tell you more so as not to spoil the experience. Calm down, the experience is for over 18 years old and, obviously, the whole tour is done individually, so any reservation you may have, delete it and dedicate yourself to enjoy the experience.
Is it ethical to go see a p****graphy show?
In the editorial office we had doubts about whether to cover a show like this or interview Erika Lust, an erotic film director. Not because of moral judgments about sexuality, but because there are many voices that consider erotic cinema (i.e. p****graphy) to be legalized prostitution and a genre that objectifies women and delves into sexist, heteropatriarchal or exploitative structures of women with which we do not agree.
On the other hand, Erika Lust defends that her production is ethical and feminist, and there are also voices that defend it. That is why we decided to go and ask her if her work could be ethical, to which she replied that all her productions were made taking into account the point of view of women and with ethical working conditions and feminist parameters.
It is up to each one to build her own morals in this regard and to decide whether to go to the show.
