The cheesecake fever does not stop, and it is already known that Barcelona is one of its main victims (or defenders) with authentic cheesecake cathedrals among its locals. Now, this fever may spread even further with the arrival in Mercadons supermarkets of one of the most acclaimed cheesecakes on the market: that of Santiago Rivera, chef of the bar La Viña (San Sebastián).
With its toasted edge, slightly sunken center and soft texture, this cake has become one of the benchmarks to follow for cooks all over the world, who seek to imitate at home this cheesecake format, a benchmark of Basque cheesecakes of this type. It seems that now Joan Roig, the CEO of Mercadona is jumping on the bandwagon by selling his own version of the famous La Viña cheesecake.
This alternative gives to serve weighs 880 grams eight servings and costs 10 euros . The cake comes frozen and every time you take it out of the defroster, you have to let it rest for eight hours at room temperature to be able to consume it in optimal conditions.
Just like the cheesecake fever, Mercadona keeps growing. According to the latest data compiled by the Statista portal, it has around 190 stores in the Community of Madrid and 1,630 stores in Spain.
