The panoramic Tren dels Llacs kicks off the summer season this Saturday, July 4, with its first trip of 2026.
Starting now, this tourist train operated by FGC will run on Saturdays between July 4 and August 8 along the historic line from Lleida to La Pobla de Segur, while the Historic Train will resume service from August 22 through October 31.
Passengers will be able to enjoy panoramic views of the Monroig and Montsec mountain ranges through the train’s large windows.
These views will be particularly impressive this season, as, according to data from the Ebro River Basin Authority, the Sant Llorenç, Camarasa, Terradets, and Sant Antoni reservoirs are currently at over 92% of their capacity.
A journey through mountains and gorges
The Tren dels Llacs winds through mountains, over bridges, through tunnels, and along deep gorges on a historic and scenic journey through the heart of Catalonia, from the Plana to the Lleida Pre-Pyrenees.
Passengers can choose between two options for this journey: the Historic Train or the Panoramic Train, the latter distinguished by its large windows.
The journey runs alongside the Segre and Noguera Pallaresa rivers, passing through the regions of Segrià, Noguera, and the Montsec mountain range until reaching Pallars Jussà.
Once the train leaves the Segre River behind, the route enters the Noguera Pallaresa basin, offering views of the reservoirs and the Montsec Mountains until it reaches La Pobla de Segur. In total, the route passes through four lakes, 40 tunnels, and 75 bridges over a distance of 89 kilometers.
The panoramic trains, GTW Series 331 units, feature 90 seats distributed across two air-conditioned cars and offer full accessibility, with spaces reserved for people with reduced mobility and bicycles, as well as power outlets for passengers.
The service includes a guide who explains the history of the region and the highlights of the route.
Complementary activities along the route
In La Pobla de Segur, the journey’s final stop, visitors can take the opportunity to explore the Espai Raier, the Molí de l’Oli, and Casa Mauri, as well as the Portet Liqueur Factory, or stroll through the town’s streets before taking the train back. Another stop of interest is Salàs, where highlights include its historic museum shops, the Museu Salàs de Pallars, and the Torre de Barta.
The area also features the Hydroelectric Museum and the Capdella power plant, as well as the Salt Museum in Gerri de la Sal, which preserves evidence of the traditional salt extraction system.
