Some trains are more than just a means of transportation. The Tren dels Llacs kicked off its 2026 season this Saturday with an 89-kilometer route between Lleida and La Pobla de Segur that traverses some of Catalonia’s most unique landscapes: the regions of Segrià, Noguera, and Pallars Jussà, with views of the Noguera Pallaresa River, the reservoirs, and the Montsec.
During its approximately two-hour journey, the train crosses 4 lakes, 40 tunnels, and 75 bridges, with a tour guide always on board to explain the route and the history of this historic train operated by Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC).
When does it depart and how to book

Twenty-nine trips are scheduled for the 2026 season. The Historic Train, featuring diesel locomotives from the 1960s and vintage cars known as “ye-yés,” will make 23 trips, every Saturday from today, April 11, through June 27, and will resume service from August 22 to October 31. The Panoramic Train will offer 6 trips between July 4 and August 8.
The Panoramic Train is a more modern version. It features large windows, air conditioning, accessible spaces, and even outlets to charge your phone; this option lets you discover the Monroig and Montsec mountain ranges as if you were inside a documentary.
The ticket includes a round trip on the same Saturday, with the option to return to Lleida on a regular train service during the following six days using the same ticket. Tickets can be purchased in advance at turistren.cat.
Once at their destination, travelers can visit the Pyrenees Wildlife and Nature Interpretation Center , the Espai Raier, the Molí de l’Oli, or the Portet Liqueur Factory, among other options.
Additionally, bicycles are permitted to complete the journey.
The Passaport Turistren: discounts for exploring Catalonia by train

Traveling on the Tren dels Llacs also serves as the gateway to the new Passaport Turistren, the initiative through which FGC has, for the first time, grouped six of its tourist transport services into a single digital pass. Along with the Tren dels Llacs, the pass includes the Tren del Ciment, the Montserrat rack railway and funiculars, and the Núria rack railway.
The process is simple: anyone who purchases a ticket for any of these modes of transport will receive an email with a link to register and obtain their digital passport, where their trips will be stamped and discounts of up to 20% will be accumulated for their next chosen mode of transport.
Those who complete all six before December 31, 2027, will receive a gift and be entered into a prize drawing.
