Catalan cuisine reaffirms its leadership in the recently presented Macarfi Guide 2026. This guide, a Michelin-style award born in Barcelona, has celebrated its eleventh edition, marking a turning point in the publication’s history by covering, for the first time, the entire Spanish peninsula. During a gala event in Madrid attended by more than 200 chefs and personalities, the guide’s organizers confirmed that the Balearic and Canary Islands will be included in the project in 2027.
The rigorous analysis, based on the opinions of almost 5,000 contributors, places Catalonia as the great culinary benchmark. On this occasion, the classification is not limited to the major regional rankings, but offers a detailed look at the Top 25 provinces and special categories such as “Rookies,” which reward emerging talent, and “Jewel in the Rough,” which highlights relevant establishments outside the usual circuits.
Barcelona’s culinary hegemony
Barcelona consolidates its position as a gastronomic capital with Cocina Hermanos Torres at the top of the provincial and regional rankings. The Torres twins’ establishment succeeds the untouchable Disfrutar and El Celler de Can Roca, which this year received the special “Top of the Tops” distinction. This recognition places them at a level of constant excellence that excludes them from ordinary competition to make way for new leaders.
Following the Torres’ leadership, the province stands out for the strength of projects such as Alkimia, by Jordi Vilà, and Estimar, by Rafa Zafra, which complete the Barcelona podium. The list of honors in the capital and its surroundings is completed by modern classics such as Via Veneto and avant-garde proposals such as Enigma, by Albert Adrià. In addition, the city celebrates the success of Fontané, which has won the Rookie of the Year award, consolidating itself as the most relevant opening of the last twelve months.
