Nine years go by very quickly, but to keep a business bustling during that time requires a lot of effort, a lot of passion, and a great product. Malkoa, a deli with tasting options located in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat, has achieved this with a selection of hearty dishes and traditional flavors, among which its unique “cachopo” stands out: made with breaded roast veal cheeks stuffed with cecina and cheese.
In addition to meat dishes, the restaurant specializes in croquettes. The regular menu features three set options, plus an off-menu alternative. The house specialty is the cocido croquette, which stands out for its very creamy interior texture. Alongside it, customers can try the roast chicken croquette, the gorgonzola croquette, and the oxtail croquette, which is usually offered as the daily special.
Another dish on the menu is the blood sausage timbale with potatoes, topped with an egg yolk. The idea for this recipe came from a trip the owners took to Astorga, in the province of León. The dish combines the creaminess of the egg and potatoes with a slight spicy kick from the blood sausage, and is served with crusty bread to assemble each bite.
Hours, prices, and where to find it
The restaurant is usually full or very busy, not only because of its excellent food but also because of the flexible portion sizes of its main dishes. The cachopo, for example, can be ordered as a whole dish or as a half-portion, depending on each person’s appetite.
To visit and enjoy any of their dishes, simply head to 42 Calle Mayor in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. Hours are Thursday through Sunday from 12:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. and from 8:00 p.m. to 11:30 p.m. (except Sundays, when it’s open only in the morning). For us, these three dishes and drinks came to about 30 euros per person, but there are many other options to enjoy and discover.
