We’ve all fantasized at some point about dropping everything and opening a charming little wine and cheese spot. A sort of bohemian hideaway that looks like it’s straight out of an episode of *Fleabag*, but without the shouting and chaos in the kitchen at *The Bear*. Luckily for us, Julien and Mickael have brought that fantasy to life with Petit Bleu (Carrer d’Entença, 116 bis, Loc 2, Eixample, 08015 Barcelona), sparing us the hard work and letting us go there just to enjoy ourselves.
The concept of this spot celebrates the French joie de vivre with the utmost simplicity. Petit Bleu operates as an artisanal cheese shop where the very same products you can buy to take home are served right there on aesthetically impeccable cheese boards.
There’s no complex, Michelin-star-chasing cuisine here; in fact, the only hot items served at the tables are some absolutely spectacular, oozing melted-cheese sandwiches. After all, when the ingredients are superb, there’s no need to overcomplicate things.
Your consultation with the “psychologists” of cheese
Sitting in their tiny, cozy shop is like stepping right into a Parisian postcard. But the true charm of the experience lies in the service. Julien and Mickael, both raised in the French countryside (Mickael’s family is, in fact, a dairy farm), don’t just serve you—they have a conversation with you.
They act as true “cheese psychologists,” delving into your tastes and preferences to craft a cheese board 100% tailored to your palate. During our visit, the “therapy session” included an aged Gouda, a melt-in-your-mouth Saint Félicien, and a Brillat Savarin that we won’t soon forget.
It tops it all off with a small but carefully curated wine selection, a generous serving of rillettes, and crusty bread. Four extraordinary cheeses, bread for spreading, and a glass in hand are, without a doubt, the exact definition of what a weekend dinner should be: a foolproof plan designed purely for relaxing and forgetting your troubles.
