There are spots in Barcelona where the sea and the sky seem to merge in a single embrace, especially as evening falls and the sea breeze begins to cool the coast. Starting this Monday, June 8, that Mediterranean postcard will gain a new vantage point from which to watch the sun set behind the city’s most iconic buildings.
The company Atracciones Buendía has decided to move Barcelona’s Monumental Ferris Wheel to a new summer location right next to the W Hotel, specifically at Plaza de la Rosa dels Vents, number 1. Thus, following its recent stint in the Barceloneta neighborhood, the structure is moving to the new entrance to the Port to join the family and tourist leisure offerings along the waterfront during the summer months.
Seventy meters above the harbor
This steel giant is no stranger to Barcelona residents. Standing 60 meters tall, it holds the title of being the largest Ferris wheel in the entire country and has already become a familiar feature of the city’s skyline.
Its silhouette is an essential classic of the Christmas festivities as part of Nadal al Port, as well as the celebrations of the Festa Major de la Barceloneta during the month of September. The organizers confirm that the attraction will maintain these key dates on its calendar and will return to those locations when the time comes.
A viewpoint between the beach and the architecture
The main attraction of this move is the radical change in scenery that riders will experience inside the cabins. Located next to the iconic sail-shaped hotel, the attraction offers an unobstructed panoramic view that combines the bustle of the boats in the harbor, the expanse of the beaches, and the city skyline.
Those in charge of the installation emphasize that the new strategic location allows the attraction to be integrated into a privileged setting in the Catalan capital, where modern architecture, local cuisine, and outdoor promenades coexist.
