The municipal libraries of Barcelona have made public the list of the most borrowed materials during the year 2024, and among them is the most borrowed book during the last 12 months: Les nostres mares by Gemma Ruiz Palà, a work awarded with the Premi Sant Jordi 2022.
This novel pays tribute to a generation of women born during the dictatorship, who, despite the obstacles, were able to forge alternative paths, lead social movements and open new doors for future generations. With a narrative that intertwines sisterhood, feminist struggle and courage, the novel celebrates these women as authentic vital references.
In the list published by the Barcelona Provincial Council Library Network, it is followed by Waiting for the Flood by Dolores Redondo, and in third position, The Wind Knows My Name by Isabel Allende.
In the digital area, the most outstanding e-book downloads were Esperando al diluvio by Dolores Redondo, Les calces al sol by Regina Rodríguez and El retrato de casada by Maggie O’Farrell.
Within the non-fiction category, titles to prepare for competitive examinations and certificates were the most popular: Qüestionaris de preguntes d’examen ACTIC. Nivell 2 – mitjà by Luis Martínez Peña, Català per a adults. Bàsic by Cristina Bernadó Fernández, and Acreditació de competències en TIC. Nivell 2 – mitjà by Julio Cuartero.
In poetry, readers have opted for classics: El poema de la rosa als llavis by Joan Salvat-Papasseit, Antologia de poesia catalana; nova tria by Enric Virgili, and Romanç de Tristany i Isolda by Joseph Bédier.
In the audiovisual field, the most borrowed films have been blockbusters: Greta Gerwig’s Barbie, Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s As Bestas and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer.
In the juvenile novels section, the most outstanding titles were Invisible by Eloy Moreno, Mentida by Care Santos and Guia màgica d’autodefensa amb galetes by T. Kingfisher.
Finally, in the foreign novel section, the most read titles were Normal People by Sally Rooney, Hamnet by Maggie O’Farrell and The Midnight Library by Matt Haig.
