Can Dragó Park, one of the main green spaces in the Porta neighborhood and home to Barcelona’s largest public swimming pool, in the Nou Barris district of Barcelona, will undergo a major renovation that will transform more than 10,600 m² of space.
Bordered by Rio de Janeiro Avenue, the newly renovated Meridiana Avenue, and Andreu Nin Promenade, the park will receive an investment of 3.42 million euros to triple the size of the children’s play area, expand recreational areas for seniors, and improve its integration with the urban environment.
The project, initially approved by the Government Committee, will now undergo a 30-business-day public comment period.
Once this process is complete and the construction contract is awarded, the work is expected to take one year, during which pedestrian access, access to nearby businesses, and access to the Can Dragó sports area will be guaranteed at all times.
More playgrounds

The renovation will triple the size of the children’s play area, in accordance with the requirements of Barcelona’s Public Space Play Plan, and will incorporate an exercise area for seniors and a calisthenics space with adapted equipment.
The petanque area will also be moved, and the dog park will be relocated away from the adjacent apartment buildings to minimize disturbances.
All of this will be achieved through the construction of two distinct linear sections, with the aim of minimizing the acoustic impact on the immediate surroundings.
A central multipurpose area will also be maintained, incorporating more vegetation and respecting existing pathways, ensuring the park remains accessible during and after construction.
The renovation will create new crosswalks on Rio de Janeiro Avenue to better connect the park with its surroundings, and will modify the adjacent sidewalks to further enhance pedestrian accessibility.
The new park will also ensure full accessibility for people with reduced mobility and will include new street furniture: benches, chairs, trash cans, and fountains, in addition to a complete renovation of the lighting system.
The first step to be taken will be the relocation of the dog park, to make it operational as quickly as possible.
The initiative is part of the Neighborhood and Indoor Spaces Program, which is integrated into the municipal Climate Plan, and has taken into account the residents’ requests gathered through participatory processes held since 2024.
