A few days ago, the Barcelona City Council announced that it would open for the first time to the public the ghost stations of the metro as part of the celebration of its centenary. The news has made so much excitement that even made to remain on the second plate that the stations are only two of the 18 mobility facilities that will be open to the public in the coming days.
Over the coming months, the centenary of the metro will join the Setmana de la Mobilitat to offer more than 5,000 places in buildings such as bus depots, the metro simulators of which we have already spoken or the Bicing control center, to name a few, offering a complete tour of mobility in the city.
The control center of Rodalies or Bicing, the subway workshops … all the spaces you can visit.

Among the 18 spaces that will open their doors to the public this year are some of TMB’s most emblematic facilities, where history and daily operations are combined. Visitors will be able to enter the Santa Eulàlia metro workshop, where the trains that run through the city are maintained and repaired, or explore the remains of the staircase on the Urquinaona platform.
You can also take a short trip to the past of Barcelona’s metro by visiting the Horta bus depot, the place where the vehicles that connect the city are kept and checked, and discover the TMB Control Center, from where the entire metro and bus network is coordinated, the real “headquarters” of urban mobility.
But not only TMB offers interesting tours: visitors can also visit the TRAM depot, where streetcars are managed; the RENFE Rodalies Management Center, in charge of supervising commuter trains; and the Bicing Operations Center, where the city’s bicycle fleet is organized and distributed.
When are the open days and how to sign up for them?
The open days will be held both as part of the Setmana de la Mobilitat (Mobility Week) and the Metro Centenary, but registration is done at the same place.
The open days are free of charge and will be held on the weekend of September 12-14. To participate, it is necessary to register in advance through the form on the website of the City Council.
