The heavy rainfall recorded since last night has caused a drastic rise in the Besòs River, forcing the authorities to close the Besòs River Park as a precautionary measure.
The hydrological situation is exceptional. According to data from the Agència Catalana de l’Aigua (ACA), the sensors located at the mouth of the river have registered a flow that has exceeded 250 m³ per second.
This figure contrasts extraordinarily with the usual flow of the Besòs at the same point, which is normally between 2 and 3 m³ per second. This exponential increase has meant the activation of the total flooding phase of the park.
Do not approach the river bank

The decision to close the park was taken jointly by the City Council of Santa Coloma de Gramenet and the Diputació de Barcelona. The accesses were preventively closed during the night of Wednesday and the park did not open its doors this Thursday.
Both the ACA and the emergency services have reiterated the call for responsibility and maximum caution, asking the public to completely avoid approaching the banks of the river, as well as other streams or flood zones, due to the serious risk posed by the force of the water.
Activation of the INUNCAT plan and multiple affectations
The closure of the park is framed in an adverse meteorological context that affects the entire coastline. Protecció Civil maintains activated the INUNCAT plan in alert phase before the forecasts of the Servei Meteorològic de Catalunya (Meteocat), which warned about the possibility of torrential rains, with accumulations of more than 40 liters per square meter in 30 minutes.
