Rodalies de Catalunya will begin reactivating the R2 Nord line tonight with the aim of restoring full rail service on Friday, January 23.
The measure comes after an agreement was reached between the Catalan government, Adif, Renfe, and the Semaf train drivers’ union, ending the uncertainty surrounding the resumption of service after two days without service due to a train derailment and the subsequent death of a worker in Gelida on Tuesday.
Inspections will be carried out on the tracks before service resumes

The agreement stipulates that train drivers will actively participate in track inspections, an essential step to ensure safety after the service interruption.
According to El Periódico, each inspection of the network’s condition will involve a train driver, a representative from Adif, and another from Renfe.
Despite this progress, the recovery of operations will be gradual. Full normalization depends on the success of the technical checks that will be carried out over the next few hours, so there may be disruptions, delays, and cancellations in the early hours of Friday.
