Although in the collective imagination September is a month of getting back into the routine, the reality is that this time of year sees many of the most picturesque local festivals and some of the most interesting activities to do with friends or family.
Just a short distance from Barcelona, in Santa Coloma de Gramanet, the Summer Festival will be held from this Friday, September 4, through Monday, September 7, featuring a packed lineup of concerts, parades, and shows where music and cultural tradition take center stage.
A very extensive musical lineup with more than 50 free concerts for all ages and tastes. At various venues throughout the town, you can enjoy music by renowned artists ranging from El Drogas to David Bustamante, covering all kinds of genres with performances by Sopa de Cabra, María Peláe, Los Manolos, El Canijo de Jérez, Chanel, and 31 FAM, among many others.
In addition, on Saturday, September 5, and Sunday, September 6, from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., the “Corre-tapa” will take place—a culinary tour of various taverns and restaurants throughout the town, accompanied by the music of brass bands and featuring tapas plus beer, water, or wine for €3.50 and €4.50.
Of course, Catalan folk traditions are also present and take center stage at this Barcelona-area town’s festivities: with the “Pasacalles dels Gegants Nous” parade, the “Galejada de Trabucaires,” the “Correfoc d’Estiu,” and the “Diada Castellera.” For the little ones, there will also be plenty of dedicated events, such as the feminist children’s festival and the water play area in the Can Sisteré gardens.
More than 100 activities, kicking off with the opening speech—delivered this year by Laia Aleixandri, a soccer player from Santa Coloma de Gramanet who plays for FC Barcelona—and concluding with a pyromusical show and a closing concert by Bustamante.
