If you looked towards the mountain this afternoon and noticed a special color, it’s not your desire to ski talking to you. It’s snowing on Tibidabo. This Saturday, Barcelona’s highest point decided to join in on the winter atmosphere sweeping Catalonia, leaving an image that is already flying around the social networks of the earliest risers in Barcelona.
Although rain has been the main feature in the city center, the altitude of the Collserola mountain range has allowed the thermometer to drop enough for the precipitation to turn into snow. According to current data in Tibidabo, the temperature has dropped to 6°C, with a wind chill of just 4°C, which, combined with 81% humidity, has created the perfect breeding ground for the first snowflakes to fall.
A fleeting spectacle to be enjoyed with caution
The weather situation is marked by northwesterly winds of around 7 mph, which are pushing cloud cover over the Catalan capital. Although the current probability of precipitation is 37%, the forecast for the rest of the day suggests that rain (and snow at higher altitudes) could persist, with a maximum temperature not exceeding 7°C at the summit.
As always when this phenomenon occurs in Barcelona, the recommendation is to enjoy it sensibly. If you plan to go up to see the snow up close, remember that access can be difficult and that the cold at the top is considerably more intense than on the Rambla. For now, we are left with the image of a Barcelona that, for one day, seems a little closer to the Pyrenees than to the Mediterranean.
