El Pumarejo is a name that resonates strongly in the underground of Barcelona and its metropolitan area. Since 2015, this cultural association has been a true laboratory of creation, a space of sound resistance that has hosted concerts, radio, and artistic residencies, first in Vallcarca and, since 2019, in L’Hospitalet de Llobregat. However, its history has been abruptly interrupted, and it is now at a critical moment that threatens its definitive closure.
The space has been closed since August 2025. The cause, according to the association, is a series of demands for works and bureaucratic requirements by the City Council of L’Hospitalet, which were accompanied by an order of immediate suspension of the activity. After a crowdfunding that allowed them to face part of the initial works, the hall explains that the consistory has required new actions, keeping the space closed and without a clear reopening date.
A call for help to save a decade of culture
This situation of closure without income is jeopardizing its survival. As they explain from the hall its horizontal structure is facing a countdown. “We have no money and we don’t know how long we will hold out, maybe a month or two, or three, at the most,” he assures. The impossibility of carrying out any activity, from concerts to screenings or talks, while they have to continue paying rent and supplies is unsustainable.
Faced with this distressing situation, the association has launched a cry for help with an eloquent name: S.O.S. Pumarejo. It is a charity event that will take place this December 14 in Rooms 2 and 3 of Razzmatazz, from 5 pm to midnight.
The line-up is a real show of solidarity from the music scene. Artists and collectives that have forged the history of El Puma, such as Tarta Relena, Orquesta del Caballo Ganador (with members of Za!, Los Sara Fontan and Esperit!), Asia, Dame Area, and St. Frances, as well as DJ sets by Meritxell de Soto, Marina Herlop, Polyglot, Latineo, Me Siento Extraña, and Jokkoo, will perform in a selfless way. The commitment is such that DICE, the sales platform, has waived its commission, allocating the full amount of the ticket (20 euros, with the option of fila cero for 5 euros) to the cause.
