The university day on Thursday, November 6 has been suspended in most of Catalonia. Faced with the alert for torrential rains activated by Protecció Civil, the main universities have opted for prudence, canceling the classroom academic activity to ensure the safety of students and staff.
The official recommendation is clear: avoid unnecessary travel. The storm is already complicating mobility in the Barcelona area, with cuts in train services and heavy traffic jams on the main roads, making access to campuses very difficult.
Total closure at UAB and UPC
The first to take the most forceful decision have been the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB) and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).
The Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona (UAB), the Universitat Pompeu Fabra (UPF) and the Universitat de Girona (UdG) have also joined in, and have suspended classes for today in all their centers and campuses.
The measure affects the entire university community. In both cases, administrative and services staff (PAS) and teaching and research staff (PDI) have been recommended to opt for teleworking whenever possible.
Recommendation: consult official channels
The suspension is in direct response to the activation of the INUNCAT plan and seeks to avoid a collapse in mobility.
Universities insist that students and workers remain attentive to official communication channels (web, social networks and institutional emails) to receive updates on the resumption of classes or the possible extension of the measures for the rest of the day.
