It often seems as though the best weekend plans in Barcelona are reserved for the city center or the usual neighborhoods, but amid the festive celebrations of La Mercè, a fantastic event is taking place in the northern part of the city. The courtyard of the Nou Barris District Headquarters opens its doors to host the first edition of Tasta Nou Barris, a free festival with no advance reservations required that brings together neighborhood cuisine, Catalan wines, and live music in one place.
The festival will take place this Saturday, September 26, from 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m., at Plaça Major de Nou Barris, 1. As for the culinary offerings, six legendary local spots in the district—23 Gastrobar, 5 Hermanos, Casa Angelita, La Esquinica, L’Hostalet, Ovante, and Txapelum—will set up their stalls to serve their best tapas and small plates, a perfect opportunity to discover the quality, diversity, and culinary character of the area while rounding out the experience with the day’s other activities.
Limited-edition Catalan wines and a free glass
The wine selection is curated by Wine Festivals, which will offer a range of options from Catalan wineries to suit every taste. Among them will be four private-label wines that can only be tasted at their events: a very fresh white, a fine-bubbled sparkling wine, an orange wine with a wild touch, and a light red designed to pair with tapas. In addition, the event is committed to sustainability and includes a reusable glass that attendees can take home as a souvenir.
The lineup for wine lovers is rounded out this weekend at Parc de la Ciutadella with the Terra i Gust festival, which pairs its dishes with a selection of natural and locally sourced wines, as well as this wine tasting and stand-up comedy show in Barcelona hosted by An Idiot’s Guide to Wine.
