Barcelona seems to hide no secrets but the truth is that just as every time the earth is removed Roman remains or medieval ships appear, behind the most unsuspected door hides the most luxurious and unknown palace. This is the case of the Casa Montagut, an eighteenth century mansion that was closed until now and will reopen with an unexpected cultural proposal.
It is the new Flamenco Theater of Barcelona, which will be in this palace of 1794 in the street Abaixadors, 10, next to the church of Santa Maria del Mar, which is listed as a Cultural Asset of Local Interest.
A Sevillian show in the heart of Borne
The building opens with a show of its own production, Inspiración, an immersive experience that seeks to take the spectator on an emotional journey through flamenco singing, guitar and dance, with artistic direction by José Galváñ – also the creative soul of the Madrid and Seville venues – the show brings together six artists on stage (two bailaoras, a bailaor, two cantaores/palmeros and a guitarist) and is presented every day, with a double daily show, from Monday to Sunday.
Unlike traditional tablaos, this new theater is committed to a more theatrical approach, with narrative and choreography, designed to excite and connect with diverse audiences. With this, Teatro Flamenco Barcelona joins the network of flamenco theaters promoted by Artes Red, a company dedicated to the preservation and promotion of flamenco in Spain and abroad.
