Barcelona is divided between two types of people, those who , no matter how cold it is, can’t sacrifice their coffee or beer without being outside, and those who hate the cold and take advantage of these dates to have a drink inside some nice place in the city.
Now, the first group, could be in danger, and is that Barcelona will ban gas stoves on the terraces of bars and restaurants from January 1. However, before panicking, this does not mean that we can not enjoy outdoor heating from now on, as electric stoves will be allowed, but only with a power of 150 watts per square meter.
Although it is only recently that the Ajuntament de Barcelona has communicated the news, this ordinance was approved in 2018, although it has not come into force until now. Since then, bars and restaurants in the city have been asked to phase out these heaters.
So even though many venues continue to use these types of stoves, some have already begun to make the switch. So, with a bit of luck, we won’t have to get out the blankets to have a few beers after work at the bar downstairs.
