This plan requires climbing to the summit of Tibidabo, the natural balcony that has watched the metropolis grow. There, what was once the Gran Hotel La Florida, known for hosting personalities such as Ernest Hemingway and Barack Obama, has been reborn as the METT Hotel & Beach Resort Barcelona Tibidabo. And with it, a space dedicated to the aperitif par excellence.
Inside is the Vermutería 1925, a cocktail bar with red-toned ceilings and a well-stocked bar, whose true treasure is its outdoor terrace. From this vantage point, with Tibidabo Amusement Park on one side and the Barcelona plain on the other, the experience combines a menu featuring half a dozen vermouths and fine tapas such as gildas or delicate salmon.
What makes this place stand out is its pricing. As one customer sums it up: “Gildas for 3 euros and vermouth for 6 euros. It’s like being in Gràcia, but on Tibidabo.” This combination of a unique setting with neighborhood prices makes a visit an affordable treat for anyone who decides to climb the mountain.
How to get there and when to go
This getaway without leaving the city is ideal to combine with a stroll or simply to take in the urban landscape. The vermouth bar is located at Carretera de Vallvidrera al Tibidabo, 83-93, or rather, inside the METT Hotel, which can be reached by the Cuca de Llum funicular, by car, or—if you’re feeling adventurous—on foot or by bike.
The venue is open on weekends: Friday afternoons, and Saturdays and Sundays starting at noon. We recommend checking the exact hours before heading up and, if possible, making a reservation to secure a spot on this prime balcony.
